The Gender Wage Gap is a topic that many people believe it’s a myth, but it is a real subject that we need to speak about and inform ourselves about. And this is the sole purpose of this presentation to prove that its a social problem that exist and need to change.
How is it measure?
This measure is calculated for year-round, full-time workers and this compares the annual wage which is the hourly wage and salary workers of a median (typical) man with that of the median woman.
An example of this calculation can be if the gender pay ratio is about 80 percent (equal to 80 cents in a dollar), this tells us that women are paid 20 percent less than men which is 20 cents less. A huge difference between genders' earnings is that it can be translated into a lower ratio but a larger gap in their earnings. A calculated result of the information provided from Economic Policy Instituted can be this: when we talk in dollar terms women bring home $3.27 less per hour than men. The median hourly calculated from the earning will be $15.67 for women and $18.94 for men.
The Women's Bureau U.S. Department of Labor explained that there is an analysis that shows a third of the gap between full-time and year-round workers wages are explained by their characteristics which are age, education, industry, occupation, or work hours.
When we talk about income inequality, we are talking about the inequality of uneven money distribution. This can be seen in politics, education, and the gender wage gap. It’s even seen in social status(rich and poor communities)
Causes:
How is Gender Wage Gap:
As said before women are paid 20% less than men which is 20 cents. This is where we can see Executive Pay, even if the man and the woman have the same job and service women will still get paid less than the men workers.
We can conclude that the gender wage gap has been taught through the years. This is known because seen when women first started to work, they always were paid less than men. We can see how this social problem is measured and how it lets us know that even if you have an education that been high school level or a bachelor’s degree or if you are the best doing that type of work or if you work full time or part-time, women are still going to be paid less than men.
