Who is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg is the Swedish teenager who skipped school and inspired an international movement to fight climate changes.

  • She is 17 years old.

School strike for climate change

. In August 2018, Greta decided to not attend school and she started protesting in front of the Swedish Parliament Building.

. She wanted the Swedish Parliament met the carbon emissions target agreed by world leaders in Paris, in 2015.

. Greta continued to strike only on fridays, sitting outside the Swedish Parliament's main Building.

Fridays For Future

Greta's protests went viral on social media spreadind around the world with the hashtag #FridayForFuture.

She said:" I'm doing this because nobody else is doing anything. It is a moral responsability to do what i can. I want the politician prioritise the climate question, and treat it like a crisis".

What did she do?

  • In December 2018, Greta's speech at the United Nations COP24 in Katowice, Poland, went viral.
  • In 2019 Greta has spoken at International meetings, including the UN's 2019 climate change gathering in New York and this year's World Economic Forum in Davos. At the forum, she called for banks, firms and governments to stop investing and subdsidising fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and gas.
