The Navigation Acts were multiple laws that were made in the 1600's by the English Parliament. The reason these laws were made were to protect the trade and the trade routes.
There were 29 laws that were passed from 1660 to 1672.
The first act was passed in 1651. It said that, "No products from any foreign country might be shipped into England in any but English-built ships operated by crews that were at least 75 percent English." Yet, the act wasn't strictly enforced.
The act of 1660 said that all the tobacco from the colonies had to be brought to England.
The act of 1663 said that almost all of the goods brought to the colonies have to have landed in England first.
The act of 1672 said that all goods had to be brought to England before they could go from one American colony to another.
Before 1761, there were other acts that passed. These included one that banned the importation of molasses and sugar. America also payed the price of all these laws a little, because of the smuggling of the colonists.
