By Qiana, Bella & Caitlin

What is the gold rush?

TOPIC 1

The Gold rush was when gold was discovered. It was discovered in multiple places such as California, Australia and our own country New Zealand. It was a really fast movement of the discoveries of goldfields. It was a major pull factor for many people to find gold. The Otago Gold rush happened in the 1880's.

What was a push factor for China?

May 7-15 Barcelona

In South China, it was very over-populated. No food or water along with droughts and land shortages was a very big push factor for people living in China.

SUBTOPIC 1

What did they do as a solution?

TOPIC 1

A group of young men had the idea to go overseas to find their future wealth. They heard the news about the Otago Gold fields and some set out to get a better job, better lifestyle and get the money they needed to help their families. Later on with the migration some men found themselves getting more wealthier from the gold mining unlike others being stuck in a new country with there family living in poverty

What was a pull factor for them?

SUBTOPIC 2

Men in China heard the news about gold being found in places like California, Australia, Canada and also our own country, New Zealand. Most men in China had the intention to make their fortunes abroad and then go back to China. These men were young-aged men and probably had a dream that they wanted to achieve while they

still could.

When the Chinese came to NZ, how determined were they?

TOPIC 2

The Chinese workers were considered hardworking and efficient. They even managed to find gold where the Europeans gave up.

Why did they come to NZ?

TOPIC 3

The chinese migration to New Zealand started because of how overpopulated and the state of south china was in. The men were able to find jobs in NZ because all of the europeans who traditionally worked in the otago gold mines left to a new opening one.

Overall, China and it's culture has now become a huge aspect of our diversity here in New Zealand.
