Modern and Ancient China

Shang

They had a monarchy. The king was powerful, and to extend their power, they would set up smaller kingdoms for their nephews and brothers to rule. When they died the power switched to either a younger brother or son.

They depended on armies to maintain rule, defend, and expand their kingdoms. They were in almost constant warfare with their enemies to keep their power under control. Prisoners were used as slaves and laborers in sacrifices.

The armies were made up of foot soldiers, archers, people mounted on horses and elephants, and fighters in chariots. Chariots were carts on two wheels drawn by horses. There were three people in a chariot, the driver in the middle, a spear carrier to their left, and an archer to their right. Their armies were terrifying.
