-He lived from 1672-1725.

-He ruled Russia from 1682-1721.

-He ruled with his older half-brother until 1696.

-He is credited with modernizing Russia and turning it into a European power.

Peter The Great was an absolute ruler. He was born into the position and he supressed anyone who disagreed with him. He also taxed long beards and robes. He even launched many military endevours by himself without checking with anyone first. He once said, "I have conquered an empire but I have not been able to conquer myself." This summarizes his absolute rule.

Peter The Great believed in westernization. He had many high up advisors in Europe who influenced him to westernize Russia. This made him do things like making a tax that for long beards and robes and encouraging his family to marry royal Europeans.
