Lake Erie is one of the Great Lakes. Adding to that, it is located between the United States and Canada and is surrounded by the states of Ohio, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Water pollution in Lake Erie is an ongoing problem. I know you may be thinking the problem is litter, it is but algal blooms are also causing problems in the lake.
Excessive algal growth in Lake Erie is a threat to the ecosystem and human health throughout the body of water which provides drinking water for 12 million people in the U.S.
Overall for the Great Lakes, the restoration initiative was about $300 million.
Clean Water State Revolving Fund cost about $1.694 billion.
Drinking-Water State Revolving Fund cost about $1.164 billion.
EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) is getting many organizations to help out with this ongoing cause of pollution in Lake Erie. Adding to that, the U.S. Action Plan summarizes the actions. Federal Agencies and States are taking actions across the basin and is providing a mechanism for tracking progress.
Even though some organizations are chipping in to save the lake, us humans can help the cause by doing some simple things. We can use reusable items like water bottles and straws so there is less waste that could possibly make its way into the lake.
