Jenna Reichert

What is a Fossil Fuel?

A fossil fuel is a fuel from organic material, dead organisms, such as coal, gas, and natural gas.

How are fossil fuels processed and made into usable forms?

How are fossil fuels processed and made into usable forms?

Fossil fuels are used in power plants, where they are heated to make steam. The steam then moves a turbine that is attached to a generator that produces electrical energy. Fossil fuels can also be burned by engines, boilers, that produce heat energy, which can be converted into mechanical energy.

1. How much of each fossil fuel are there in the world? How long will current supplies last?

1. How much of each fossil fuel are there in the world? How long will current supplies last?

~There is 1.06 trillion tons of coal reserves left in the world, and it will last only 132 years more.

~There are 6,923 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves left in the world, and it will last 52 more years.

~There are 1.65 trillion barrels of oil reserves as of 2016, and it will only last 47 more years.

What are 3 problems associated with humans being so dependent on fossil fuels?

Humans depend on gas for our cars, but the problem is that the exhaust from the cars, from the engine burning the gas, hurts the environment. Also, all of the fossil fuels are running out, so one day there will be no more fossil fuels. Also, fossil fuels can be damaging to human health.

Solutions to the problems:

A solution could be that more people start using cars that do not need petroleum to run. Another solution would be that humans start using fossil fuels less, and find other sources of energy. Also we should use less fossil fuels to help the health of people. We can also find ways to purify the air, to help with health problems.

Advantages and Disadvantages

~Some advantages of using fossil fuels are that they are a cheap way to produce energy. Also, a small amount of fossil fuels can produce a large amount of energy. All fossil fuels can be used to power a large variety of things.

~The main disadvantage of fossil fuels is that they damage the environment. They add pollution to the air by releasing carbon dioxide, and other greenhouse gases. Also, physically removing the fuels damages the environment, for example, coal extraction hurts whole ecosystems including animals, plants, soil, and mountains

Why are fossil fuels such a significant source of energy for the world?

Fossil fuels are inexpensive and go a long way with just a little bit. They provide many people with jobs and are a stable source of energy.

Why are humans’ dependent on fossil fuels?

Humans need fossil fuels to produce energy for everyday life. Such as cooking because it uses natural gas. Also, we use gas for our cars every day.
