• In 1969, the Conference of the Rulers of Malaysia decided that the need for a body to mobilize the development and progress of the Muslim ummah in Malaysia, in line with Malaysia's national status as an increasingly strong Islamic State and gaining international attention.

• Recognizing that fact, a secretariat to the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) was established, to preserve the sanctity of the Islamic faith and teachings.

• The secretariat was then developed as a Religious Division, Prime Minister's Department which was then upgraded to become the Division of Islamic Affairs (BAHEIS).

• On January 1, 1997, in line with the ever-expanding Islamic development and advancement in the country, the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (JAKIM) was set up by the Malaysian government to take over the power and role (BAHEIS).

JAKIM FUNCTION

The Islamic Development Department of Malaysia, the Prime Minister's Department will act as the central agency in the planning of Islamic Affairs and the development of the ummah with the following functions:

• Responsible as a planner who determines the development and progress of Islamic Affairs in the country

• Developing policies for the development of Islamic Affairs in this country and maintaining the purity of the Islamic faith and teachings

• To help formulate and standardize the necessary laws and regulations as well as evaluate and coordinate the implementation of existing laws and administration from time to time in an effort to resolve the problems of Muslims

• Implementing the development programs of the ummah and the appreciation of Islam in the management of the country

• Coordinate the law enforcement mechanisms as well as the rules of Islamic Affairs across the country

• To evaluate Islamic Affairs programs implemented in this country

• Acting as a collector, disseminator and reference center for information on Islamic affairs

• Implementing the development of the ummah through regional and international cooperation.

• The logo design as a whole symbolizes the transformation created by jakim is in line with the vision, mission, motto, objectives and functions of this department as a leader in building a superior civilization of the ummah.

• The logo design concept is based on the design of the mosque tower structure that is processed through the khish khafi script.

Describes the spirit, willingness and capabilities of JAKIM in promoting its transformation as the ultimate and superior body in the country.

Describes the trained, skillful, dedicated and valuable people of JAKIM in developing human capital towards achieving the mission, vision and objective of the department.

Meaning the excellence created with JAKIM's mission, vision and objective as the direction of the department.
