Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum)

Mature males have a scent gland on the forehead that looks like a bald spot. They have a similar scent gland on the throat and near the base of the tail, which they use to mark each other and their territory. Males weigh 4 to 6 ounces (110 to 160 grams), and the slightly smaller females weigh 3 to 5 ounces (95 to 135 grams).

Sugar cane grows in the tropics, and it can be grown in the warmer parts of the United States. Currently, sugar cane is grown commercially in Florida, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Texas.

lilac - syringa

Lilacs are easily recognized by their long, often cone-shaped panicles covered in tiny, tubular flowers.

With so many different types and sizes of lilacs, you can find a variety to fit any landscaping use.

Plant shape varies among different lilac species. Common, or French lilac, tends to grow in a vase shape with a wider top than bottom

Powdery mildew, a white fungal growth that typically covers leaves, often affects all species of lilacs

woody stem

The lilac is a schrub that is usually used in gardens for creating a natural fence. The lilac flower comes from the southeastern part of Europe and Asia, but today it can be found all over the world, as we have already mentioned. They are especially popular flowers in the United States.

Rose of Sharon - Hibiscus syriacus

Rose of Sharon is an upright-growing shrub that can reach 10 to 12 feet tall with a 6-foot spread. Rose of Sharon is tolerant of a variety of soils and can take wind. Rose of Sharon shrubs are vigorous, hardy plants with few pest or disease problems.

Despite its name, the deciduous flowering shrub we call rose of Sharon isn’t a rose at all. Native to Asia and India, this plant with exotic-looking blooms is actually a hibiscus (Hibiscus syriacus), a member of the mallow family. Other common names include shrub althea, Chinese hibiscus and hardy hibiscus.

Bamboo Shoot - Phyllostachys edulis

he most distinguishable characteristic of bamboo is the root system, which is comprised of a group of rhizomes. Rhizomes are stems that migrate from the central plant to establish new territory. As the rhizomes spread underground, they will eventually travel upwards to create a new culm.

Origins While bamboo grows everywhere in the world except those places with extremely cold climates, it is thought to have originated in China, where the first use of bamboo to make every day items was recorded.

nutritional value

The bamboo plant is a member of the grass family. After about 3-4 years of implantation, a new shoot arises from the underneath root system which is then gathered, and eaten as a vegetable. Some of the important edible species widely prevalent are Bambusa bambos, Bambusa tulda, B. polymorpha, B. balcooa, Dendrocalamus hemiltonii, D. gigentius, and Melocanna baccifera.

California Poppy - Eschscholzia californica

California poppies are annual plants with feathery gray-green foliage. The four-petaled flowers, borne on stems 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inches) long, are usually pale yellow, orange, or cream in the wild, but cultivated varieties are available in whites and various shades of red and pink.

The California poppy ( Eschscholzia californica) is native from the Columbia River area of Oregon and Washington to Baja California and east into Arizona. Widely planted as a garden flower, California poppies escaped cultivation and are now found throughout most of the United States.

medical

value

California poppy leaves were used medicinally by Native Americans, and the pollen was used cosmetically. Californian poppy is a bitter sedative herb that acts as a diuretic, relieves pain, relaxes spasms and promotes perspiration. It is taken internally in the treatment of nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia and incontinence (especially in children)
