Anxiety

How it appears

How it appears

"People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns. They may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat (APA)."

Example: Oh noo, maybe I can find a way to avoid going to [insert stressfull place].

What it isn't

What it isn't

"Anxiety is not the same as fear, but they are often used interchangeably.

Anxiety is considered a future-oriented,

long-acting response broadly focused

on a diffused threat, whereas fear is an

appropriate, present-oriented, and

short-lived response to a clearly

identifiable and specific threat (APA)."

Diffused Threat explained: it is not an immediate physical threat however it is a threat that is causing physical stress.

Example: I am worried about my upcoming tests I don't know how I will do....
