Gina's Initial Exam

The initial exam done on Gina is performed by the Physical Therapist. They will asses her results to make the correct decisions based on the data. The Physical Therapist Assistant does not have any part in the patient or clients initial examination.

PT & PTA Roles and Responsibilities

By: Dejah Jungwirth

Final Treatment Session

The PT decides when it's time for Gina to stop treatments, in this case 6 weeks. The PT uses input from the PTA and regular check-ins. They make a final assessment, noting which goals were achieved and give instructions for aftercare if needed. The PT and PTA worked together throughout Ginas treatment to ensure the best care for her. It is crucial to trust, have mutual respect, and recognize eachother skills and differences.

Plan of Care

My Opinion

Communicating Throughout the Process

The Physical Therapist will establish the plan of care with the data and results of the initial examination. The PT will predict the expected level of improvement that Gina can potentially achieve. The Plan of Care will include the duration of six visits, frequency, and types of interventions needed to get Gina back to her best. It can also outline her goals, expected outcomes and go through the different physical therapies and techniques. The Physical Therapist Assiant is not involved in establishing the Plan of Care.

The PT and PTA must maintain frequent communication. The PTA's responsible for suggesting ideas, offering feedback, performing assigned tasks, and openly discussing concerns with the PT regarding clinical matter or other challeges. The PT and PTA will need to discuss and clarify the goals and expectations for Gina. The PT and PTA need to communicate openly on how Gina will respond to the treatment interventions and discuss positive and negative outcomes. They should communitcate how Gina's interventions are progressing, treatment protocols, and the expected time frames for treatment goals. The PT is responsible for conducting all reassesments and discharge evaluations, using information from the PTA. Any and all changes must go through the PT.

Developing a strong professional relationship between a PT and PTA is crucial for effective patient care. Personally I would want to have a relationship where we could communicate clearly, trust and respect eachother, recieving collective critisim and having conflict resolution. Effective patient care is the most important and having those qualities will make that happen.
