Plants vs. Different Colors of Light

What color light grows a plant the best?

Luke Miles, Steven Duing, and Gavin Aultz

Our Research

Research

Steven researched from a book that violet light should grow plants the best.

Luke researched that green light would be the worst and purple would be the best.

Gavin surveyed people who own gardens and most people said that violet light would grow the plants the best.

Our Hypothesis

We hypothesized that violet light would grow the tulips the best because it has the most positive affects on plants.

Our Experiment

Step 1: We bought 4 red tulips.

Step 2: We set the plants up with different colors of light.

Step 3: We gave the plants 1/4 cup of water every couple days.

Step 4: Every three days we recorded data on the plants.

Experiment Plans

Variables

Variables

Independent Variable - the color of the lights

Dependent Variable - the growth of the red tulips

Control Variables - amount of water, amount of light, same pot/environment

Conclusion

Our data disproved our hypothesis. Red grew 5/8 of an inch. Violet light only grew 4/8 of an inch. Violet light was supposed to grow the best based on our research. A potential reason for this is because red light can greatly enhance the photosynthesis of plants and promote the growth of plants.

Limitation:

- If we had more time to conduct the experiment, there is a chance that violet or another color could of passed the plant in red light
