After the 1920s four roads was established as an official gaa club along with many senior and underage teams
On Easter Sunday of 1946 the streets were black with people walking and cycling to the final against St Comans of Roscommon, itwas a great win and restarted the legacy that the Maith go Leors had started for the small town.it was a fitting win considering the legendary Matt Heaveys son Mattie Heavey was the capitan of the Senior team.
The original colours of the Maith go Leors jerseys were green with a black stripe across it.
in the 1930s the switched to yellow with a black stripe. This was the same as St Failles at the time so the teams often switched Jerseys and it got to the point that neither team had a full set of jerseys
Eventually the Four Roads Team sat down and redesigned the jersy to the one we know today
In 1909 they were defeted by their Roscommon Town rivals
It was described that Matt Hearny and Roscommon Towns Harry Hession always had a vigiorious battle in Midfield
this was the beginning of the end for the Tisrara Team as the Saturday befor the game a prominet Citizen from the community died, many of the players for the team were at the wake. and "Over indulged" at the wake.
Four Roads GAA Club was founded in 1904. It is a GAA club in the mid- south of Roscommon, it is a GAA club set 16km from Roscommon town.
Four Roads have won a total of 37 senior titles in the years of
1905, 1906, 1907, 1945, 1946, 1948, 1950, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1971, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019,2022, 2023.
Four Roads is the most heavily awarded club in county Roscommon, this is a very good feat considering that Four Roads is a very small club.
The Maith Go Leors were met with early sucess and had their very first match against Athleague, which they won which was unexpected due to the fact that the Maith Go Leors were only a fledgling team at this point and Athleague was alredy heavily established.
This legendary victory launched the Maith Go Leors into local fame
Four Roads Ladies gaelic football was established in 1996 since then its a extremely popular sport in the area
Camogie is also similarly popular and girls have won multiple titles in Underage and other levels alomg with the LGFA
Hurling games were put on pause due to the First World War which was lead up by trhe war of independance an turbulance in the early 1920s They had to wait until Easter, 1946 (when the 1945 final was played), for our next Roscommon Senior County Championship.
During those long years where there was no wins betweemn the latw1920s and 1945, there were many good hurlers and good teams who kept hurling going in the parish In the late 1920s a team nicknamed the Young Mogeys.
at this time there was no proper hurling fields in Four Roads so matches were played in fields around the parish.
as we can see with this poem by Tom Seavers the player of the Maith Go Leor team were very proud of their Team and their hurling achievements.
Today Four Roads is a Club rich with a love for all sports theres a very sucessful Hurling, Camogie and LGFA team. A Large Portion of Four Roads Player are also on the Roscommon County teams representing the club
The reason i did my CBA on the GAA club on four roads is because I along with my family are heavily involved with the GAA
I am proud of the fact that Four Roads has such a high number of titles despite being such a small club.
I enjoyed the process of the CBA and learning more about the GAA club I play for
I believe the research and presentation skills I developed during this CBA will help me greatly in other endevors
