I chose the ISTE standard number five, connected learner.
"Model and promote continuous professional learning for themselves and others"
The learners that I am basing my answers off of in this assignment will be middle schoolers. Specifically I will be answering as if I was teaching in a classroom full of students who had a variety of different disabilities.
Setting goals for themselves. If they know what they are working towards then they will stay on track and push to reach their goals. I will of course b e there to help them along the way as well.
I feel as though students should have an option as to whether or not they will have homework. Let them be in control of the time. So plan the day to where you get through a certain amount of work and they give them that work time in class so they do not have anything to do outside of class.
Allow students to feel as though they have a say in how the classroom will be run. Allow them to come up with some rules and expectations alongside your own.
When giving students an assignment I feel as it is best to give them options. For example, allow them to pick if they want to turn a project in on poster board, or create a powerpoint, or even type up an essay. Give them the options, but in the end set them up for success.
Allow the students to feel as though they are teaching you. Let them be the teacher for the day to teach not only your peers, but also yourself. (Give them topics you know a little bit about, of course).
