Introducing Athens

Athens was a strong greek city state. It was constantly waring against its sister city-states. This culture was specifically good at art.

Democracy

The Athenians decided to have their own kind of rule. Instead of having kings they would have a government ruled by the people, a Democracy.

Family Life for Boys and Girls in Athens

Greek Boys in Athens would go to school at the age of 7. They could decide, when they were 18, wether to go train in the army or to work on a type of trade and craft like pottery, Merchant, or Farmer.

Girls back in Athens would learn how to cook, sew, and how to be mothers or wives.

Trade in

Athens

Athens traded with other city-states and then later traded with Sicily, Italy, and Egypt etc.

They imported barley, cheese, and pork while exporting glass, rugs, and ivory

Religion

The Athenians believed in the Greek gods, but their main goddess was Athena.

The Olympics

The Olympics, which were held once a year, were where all the Greek city-states competed in different games. some of these were running, jumping and, Javelin throwing.

the story of how Athena was the city-state's goddess, was that, both Posidean and Athena wanted Athens. (it probably wasn't called Athens then) They both gave gifts. Athena gave a Olive Tree, and Posidean gave them a spring. The people of Athens chose Athena's because Posidean's spring was saltwater.
