What is Climate Change?

Climate Change is the long-term change in the earth's temperatures and weather patterns. Since the industrial revolution (18th century,) humans have been releasing excess greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Doing this creates a "blanket" that wraps around the earth, trapping the sun's heat and thus raising temperatures.

Where is Climate Change Occuring?

Climate Change is occurring all over the planet and is expected to worsen in the decades to come. However, some countries are more likely to be affected by others. Those are coastal nations, countries with warm climates, and developing countries.

Around the Globe

1

Coastal Nations

Coastal communities and island nations like Japan, the Philippines, and Bangladesh are at greater risk of rising sea levels. Sea level rise is caused by melting glaciers and ice sheets by increasing temperatures. This can cause floods, erosions, and increase the intensity of storm surges.

2

Nations with Warm Climates

Countries with warm climates tend to be at greater risk of climate change. These are prominently African nations. Due to warming temperatures, they are far more likely to experience droughts and wildfires. We are already seeing this in countries like the Central African Republic, where 120kha of land was burned this year.

3

Developing Nations

Developing countries are also far more likely to be affected by climate change. Developing nations tend to have fewer resources and tools to fight the impacts of climate change and are less likely to recover in the event of a flood or a hurricane, for example.

Environmental

-Changes in rainfall patterns

-Increased risk of floods/draughts

-More frequent and severe heat waves and wildfires

-Rise in sea levels

- Habitat loss for wildlife

Social

- Increased risks of health effects such as cardiovascular/respiratory disease

- Lack of clean drinking water

-Increased risk of famine

-Migration/forced displacement

-Rise in conflicts

Impacts of Climate Change

Impacts of Climate Change

Economical

-Costly reparations for damaged infrastructure

-Water and food will be less abundant and, therefore, more expensive

-Extreme weather can damage businesses and disrupt transportation

Political

-Conflicts for resources between nations and world leaders for resources

-Political instability and social unrest

Brief History and Motivations

Carbon dioxide is one of the leading gases when it comes to contributing to climate change. As a result, Carbon 180 is doing evreything it takes to elimate carbon from the atmoshere through innovative, science based projects. The organization began in 2015 and was co-founded by Giana Amador and Noah Deich. They were a strong believer that our goverments were not taking accountibility for the worldwide issue and that future generations would perish if climate change was not addresed.

DAC (Direct Air Capture)

With the help of Carbon 180 offices, they have helped several communities build sustainable farming practices that reduce carbon emmision

Planted millions of trees in the Amazon Rainforest

Call to Action

Installed dozens of BECCSs that are expected to remove 3.5-5.2 gigatons of C02 annually by 2050

Supplied dozens of DACs to industries and production sites. DAC is another innovative carbon- removing technology that removes carbon and permanently stores it underground

Actions Taken to Combat Climate Change

What can you do to Mitigate Climate Change

What Can you do?

As the impacts of climate change are worsening day by day, here is what you can do:

  • Switching to more energy-efficient appliances like LED lightbulbs
  • Walking, cycling, or public transport
  • Switching to an electric vehicle
  • Reuse and recycle items
  • Avoid products with a lot of packaging
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Use energy wisely: Don't let technology on without use
  • Adjust thermostat
