Correspondence theory

Correspondence

In metaphysics and philosophy of language, the correspondence theory of truth states that the truth or falsity of a statement is determined only by how it relates to the world and whether it accurately describes that world.

Basically, if someone states that "this is an apple" while pointing to an apple, that statement would be true. If they were to say "this is not an apple" while pointing to a pear, that statement would also be true.

Coherence Theory

The Coherence theory of truth tells us that a belief is true only if it coheres with other previously existing beliefs that we deem as true.

Basically, we've established before what an apple looks like, its a belief we all deem true. If someone pointed to an apple saying that this was an apple, it would be true, because we all deem this to cohere with our previous beliefs.

Pragmatic theory

The Pragmatic theory of Truth tells us that our ideas are true if they serve us to solve problems. It determines the truth of falsity of a statement if it helps us directly.

Basically, if someone were to say that there is a gaping hole in the cafeteria
