What is it?

What is the Nieveen Model?

Goal: "To produce mutiple verisons of a computer-based electronic performance system (EPSS) for enhancing the quality and efficiency of curriculm materials development" (Branch, Gustafson).

This model was originally intended for training programs in business but has been used in schools across Holland as well.

"Nieveen's model is driven by extensive use of formative evaluation of successive versions of the design documents and then of the actual curriculum materials until satifactory level of quality has been achieved" (Branch, Gustafson).

Advantages

  • Clear model with set objectives
  • Offers a series of checks and balances
  • Can be applied to both business and education
  • It's adaptable to a variety of issues

  • Doesn't work well with smaller projects
  • Takes a certain level of experience with computer beforehand

Implementing large scale district-wide curriculm changes and additions.
