We have learned that the verb gustar conjugates differently than most other verbs. In this section, we will explore some other verbs that conjugate like the verb gustar.

Indirect Object Pronouns

The verb gustar is always preceeded by an indirect object pronoun. This pronoun tells us who likes something.

Me gusta... I like...

Te gusta... You like...

Le gusta... He / she likes...

Nos gusta... We like...

Les gusta... They like...

A él le gusta helado.

He likes ice cream.

It is pleasing!

The verb gustar does not have a direct equivalent in English. The literal meaning of the construction is "to be pleasing to (someone)" and it requires the use of an indirect object pronoun. (me, te, le, nos, os, les)

To state what somebody likes or does not like to do, use the appropriate verb followed by the correct infinitive. Use the singular form of the verb (like gustar) even if there is more than one infinitive.
