A SHARIFF AGUAK, Andal Ampatuan Sr. (Born 1940/1941 – Died July 17, 2015} was a filipino politician who was the main suspect in the MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE. He was the Patriarch of the ampatuan Political Family in the Maguindanao Provice on the island of Mindanao in the philippines.

Ampatuan was a vice mayor when President Ferdinand Marcos appointed him as mayor and officer-in-charge of Maganoy (now Shariff Aguak). When Corazon Aquino came into power via the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, she replaced every locally elected official with officers-in-charge. Ampatuan Sr. was appointed mayor 1986
After the 1988 local election, Andal Ampatuan Sr. served for ten years as mayor winning 3 consecutive elections in 1988, 1992, and 1995. In the 2001 elections, Andal Sr. was elected as governor.
In 2001, the Ampatuan clan solidified its hold on power through a close friendship with Gloria Macapagal Arroyo when she assumed the presidency after EDSA People Power II. During the 2004 presidential elections, Arroyo dominated the polls in Shariff Aguak and most of Maguindanao.
Amid speculation that cheating had occurred in Maguindanao and other Mindanao provinces, results were contested by Arroyo's main rival, popular actor Fernando Poe Jr. The 2007 mid term elections for the Philippines senate had Maguindanao in focus once more as it was the only province that returned a 12-0 win for Arroyo's senate slate, Team Unity.
The Maguindanao massacre, also known as the Ampatuan massacre, named after the town where mass graves of victims were found, Buluan Vice Mayor Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu sent a convoy, an all-women party, to go to Sharrif Aquak believing in the islamic tradition that women aren't to be harmed and that they were safe under the eyes of the media. but they were then attacked, According to the authorities, the attack killed 58 people, including 32 journalists. Some were raped before being killed and the 58th body was never found.
At least 198 suspects, including Andal Ampatuan Jr. and Andal Ampatuan Sr. and several other members of the Ampatuan clan, were charged with murder.
In 2011 Ampatuan pled not guilty in court to charges of having overseen the massacre.
Before the court case concluded, Ampatuan died on 17 July 2015 in Quezon City after falling into a coma caused by a heart attack.
In 2019 Ampatuan's sons Zaldy, Andal Jr., and Anwar Sr., as well as other relatives and accomplices, were convicted of 57 counts of murder.

Andal "Datu Unsay" Uy Ampatuan Jr. (born August 15, 1976) is a Filipino convicted mass murderer and former politician. He is one of the main perpetrators of the Maguindanao massacre along with his father, brothers, and nephews. At the time of the massacre, he was the outgoing mayor of Datu Unsay, Maguindanao and was planning to run for provincial governor, the position his father, Andal Sr., was set to vacate. Esmael Mangudadatu, from a rival political clan, declared his candidacy for the 2010 gubernatorial elections thus challenging Ampatuan for the post. The Ampatuans carried out the massacre to kill Mangudadatu.
Andal Jr.'s first wife, Reshal Santiago Ampatuan, served as mayor of Datu Unsay until her death due to cardiac arrest in 2018; she was 38. The couple had six children.

Sajid Ampatuan was elected as vice governor of Maguindanao in the 2004 elections while his father Andal Ampatuan Sr. was elected as governor of the province.

Tasked by his father to lead the "reunification" of the Ampatuan political clan, Sajid Ampatuan would run for the position of mayor of Shariff Aguak in the 2016 elections under the United Nationalist Alliance. He lost his mayoral bid.
In 2017, several corruption charges were filed against Sajid Ampatuan which is connected to his tenure as acting governor of Maguindanao from 2008 to 2009.
He would get elected as vice mayor of Shariff Saydona Mustapha in the 2022 elections. He ran under the Nacionalista Party.
In October 2022, Ampatuan was sentenced to a maximum of 170 years of imprisonment by the Sandiganbayan for violations of the anti-graft and corrupt practices act and for malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents.
In January 2023, he was convicted of the same charges in connection with several ghost road rehabilitation projects, with a prison sentence of 64–112 years in total. He was also ordered arrested by the Sandiganbayan for his failure to attend on the promulgation of the decision. Five engineers were also convicted of falsification charges as well.
