1890

~ In 1891, The North Carolina General Assembly ratified an Act establishing the "A. and M. College for the Colored Race".

~ In 1892 John Oliver Crosby (picture on the right) was elected to by the College's first President.

~ In 1893 the main building called " the college building" was completed. This build had dorms, classrooms, and offices.

~ In 1895, John Crosby designed the "Crosby Hall".

~ In 1901, Frances Grimes was the first women to earn a bachelor's degree from the College

~ In 1904, the college developed an 100-acre farm. With up-to-date machinery and devices.

~The picture to the right shows the women of A&M who attended the college.

~ In 1915, the college name was changed to "Negro Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina" .

~ In 1919, Robert L. Campbell was presented a Distinguished Service Cross on the campus of A&T for his service in France.

~ In 1925, Dr. Ferdinand D. Bluford (picture on right) was elected as the College's third president.

~ In 1926 the National Alumni Association was organized

~ in 1928 A&T was granted an "A" rating by the North Carolina Department of Education

~ In 1930 A&T was granted an "A" rating by the New York Department of Education and the American Medical Association.(picture on right)

~ In 1931, female students are allowed for the first time to participate as members of the Student Council.

~ In 1936 A&T attained an "A" rating on the approved list of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

~ In 1939, A&T was authorized to grant the Master of Science degree in education

~ In 1940 A&T conferred its first bachelors degree in instrumental music.

~ In 1942 Senior Army R.O.T.C. Program was started.

~ In 1945, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt toured the campus. (Below)

~ In 1946 A&T acquired the 96-acre land tract known as North Campus.

~ In 1951 The Senior Air Force R.O.T.C. Program was instituted.

~ In 1953 the School of Nursing was established.

~ In 1955, Dr. Warmoth T. Gibbs (On right) was selected as the fourth President.

~ In 1957 The name of the College was changed to "Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina".

1960

~ In 1961, the "Greensboro Four" (Below) did their noteable. Sit-In.

~ In 1960 Dr. Samuel D. Proctor was selected as the fifth President of the College.

~ In 1966,The Board of Directors for the A&T College Foundation was appointed.

~ In 1967,The name of the College was changed to "North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University".

1970

~ In 1970, The School of Business and Economics was created by an Action of the Board of Trustees. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools reaffirmed A&T

~ In 1971, A&T left the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and helped form the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). (Below)

~ In 1976, The Men's Basketball Team wins the MEAC Championship.

~ In 1980, The University became an affiliate member of the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina.

~ In 1983,The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a 1964 A&T graduate, became a candidate for the Presidency of the United States.

~ In 1985, Aggie Stadium was dedicated (Below)

~ In 1989, A&T received a $2.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to conduct telecommunications research.

1990

~ In 1990, The University dedicated a multi-million dollar center for composite materials research.

~ In 1991,The $16 million new F.D. Bluford Library was dedicated.(Below)

~ In 1996, The Men's Indoor Track Team was co-winner of the MEAC.

~ IN 1998, A&T granted it's first Ph.D degrees to Sidney Llewellyn Bryson , Alfred L. Burress, and Christopher Grace

2000

~ In 2000, Dr. Carolyn W. Meyers was the first female named as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.(Below)

~In 2000, The School of Agriculture was renamed "School of Agriculture and Environmental and Allied Sciences".

~ In 2001, Dr. Carolyn W. Meyers was named the first Provost of the University. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on February 5th for the new 400 Obermeyer Parking Lot located in the heart of campus.

~ In 2008,The Human Rights Medal was awarded to Dr. George H. Evans, a centenarian and Greensboro medical doctor who retired in 1981, at the University's 48th Sit-In Anniversary Celebration on February 1st.
