Deaf Technology

Visual Alert Signals

Topic 1

These are desgined to help alert people who have a hard time hearing or deaf. They help them visually like using lights to get their attention. Deaf people find these very using full and are used a lot today. They are mostly used when a smoke alarm goes off, the doorbell, or fire alarms. Some negatives things about this is when you're sleeping you could not notice it

Subtopic 1

Vibration Devices

These vibration devices are mainly to alert people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They can vibrate the floor on an item. Deaf people find these very useful and they can be found in facilities where there are many deaf people. Such as schools and homes. Some negatives about it is it can be annoying or irriting if you aren't use to the vibrations.

TTY Device

Topic 2

This device is still used today and many big brand companies use it in there products, such as apple. This technology helps people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speeched impared communicate. This device allows them to text back and fourth like phones today.

Subtopic 1

Hearing Aids

Hearing aids are one of the most common devices that will help your hearing ability. They were invented in 1898. Deaf peple do find it helpful not just for communication it also helps to alert them to sounds such as oncoming traffic. Today hearing aids are made to look like they're not there so people can get it in a clear color.

Cochlear Implant

Topic 3

Cochlear is a surgically implanted neuroprothestic implant device that helps enhance your hearing ability. This technology is mostly for moderate to profound hearing loss. This technology was invented in 1961. A negative thing about them is t is visible to others.

Subtopic 1

FM systems

FM system was invented in 1933. This is another wireless device that helps people's hearing in loud places. They work by frequency and radio waves that are being transmitted back to the FM system. This device is still used today but there are cons such as they have to learn in a different channel than others to prevent mis-communiation. The Deaf community have mix feelings about this device.

Text Telephones

Topic 4

Text telephones were very popular among the deaf community. They were an easy and effect way to communicate to each other before we had phones where you could text on. They aren't used much anymore since they are out dated.

Subtopic 1

Wireless Pagers

This technology is fairly simple and easy to use they allow deaf people to communicate by sending emails, faxes, pages, and calls. This technology was created during the 1950s. But they have been less popular since the wide spread of cellphones.

Closed Caption

Topic 5

Closed caption was a revolutionary idea where there were text on the bottom on a screen, mostly on a TV. This all started back in the 1980s. They were designed to help people who are deaf or have a hard time hearing.

Subtopic 1

Assistive Learning Devices

These devices include headphones and ear buds. There mainly help people who have trouble hearing. This cancels out the background noises and focuses on the sound you're listening to. This invention was very successful and still used today, very often.
