Quick cryptocurrency overview:
Lisk (LSK)
Nutshell
- Lisk is a Blockchain application platform, established in early 2016.
- It will enable developers to create, distribute and manage decentralized Blockchain applications by deploying their own sidechain linked to the Lisk network, including a custom token.
- It is based on its own Blockchain network and token LSK and has similarities to other smart contract platforms like Ethereum or NEO but uses Javascript which is one of the most popular programming languages.
- Lisk had ICO between February and March 2016 and raised over 14k BTC
Technology
- Lisk uses sidechains and a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable a complete kit allowing developers to produce dapps and an independent blockchain under one system. This side blockchain is linked to and secured by the separately maintained Lisk blockchain.
- Lisk is written in JavaScript (which is the most popular language for web applications) and is using Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) consensus algorithm.
- There is no maximum amount of Lisk tokens in circulation but the inflation rate will decrease over time. Lisk (LSK) is a usage or utility token. It is used to pay for the network fees which occur for different types of transactions.
Usage
- Lisk is trying to make Blockchain technology more accessible with an SDK written in JavaScript, special focus on user experience, developer support and in-depth documentation.
- With mainchain and sidechains Lisk offers developers an environment where they have full control to create their own Blockchain network as a sidechain but don’t have to confront the complexity of creating a Blockchain network from scratch.
- The ultimate aim is to allow people to develop decentalised applications of any sort running on many servers, providing security, uptime and entirely new business models.
Availability and price
- LSK is available on all major exchanges
- Most volume goes through YoBit, Bittrex and Polo
- Can be bought with fiat through BitBay, Jubi and Livecoin
- Current price (23rd of September) around $6 with the currency being ranked on1 4th place based on market cap
- Extreme spike recently due to re-branding plans
Unique aspects
- Lisk usage of sidechains is fairly unique (Ardor is the main competition in that regard)
- Lisk is written in and supports Javascript which is one of the most popular languages in the world
- Lisk is aiming to offer all necessary tools to develop a blockchain application:
- Consensus Algorithm (e.g. DPoS)
- Sidechain (as the immutable database)
- Back end (the application logic)
- Front end (the application user interface)
Unique aspects
My verdict
- With the upcoming re-branding Lisk should probably increase in price
- Long term Lisk seems like a very promising project - it's offering all necessary tools to develop a blockchain application and should be go to pick for development in Javascript
- If Lisk becomes the popular selection for developers the value of tokens should increase in value significantly
- There will be a decent amount of competition but Lisk is already established and there is still a lot of space in the this area
My verdict
