The Atlantic Maritime ecozone consists of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and the Gaspé region of Quebec .
Its climate type is a Humid continental and subarctic.
Humid continental climate definition: Are warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold in the northern areas) winters. Precipitation is usually distributed throughout the year.
Subarctic climate definition:
Is a climate characterized by long, usually very cold winters, and short, cool summers.
Rivers and streams predominate in areas of sedimentary bedrock and thicker soils. More than 11,000 kilometers of coastline are deeply marked by tidal inlets and impressive sand dunes.
There are almost 4,000 islands off the coast, near lagoons and extensive marshes that surround Nova Scotia. In addition to the red sandstone cliffs and harsh volcanic rocks of the Bay of Fundy tower over beaches up to 3 miles wide.
The Atlantic maritime ecozone mainly involves a mixed forest region and some parts include a deciduous forest region. There are several different types of trees in the Maritime Atlantic. Trees like maple, oak, cedar, yellow birch, and many more.

Much of the wildlife in the ecozone depends on forest ecosystems. There are land mammals such as the black bear, the snowshoe hare, the bobcat, the northern flying squirrel, and the white-tailed deer.
This eco-zone covers all of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec. The Atlantic Maritime ecozone is to the right of Mixedwoods Plains and to the left of the Atlantic Marine ecozone. It has a total population of 2.5 million people, makes up 9% of Canada's total populace. The city of St. John's, Newfoundland. Waterfront of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The Atlantic Maritime Ecozone had an estimated 1991 Gross Domestic Product of approximately $40 billion, contributing 7% of Canada's total. The ecozone provides 12% of Canada's total resource-based employment, with the fishery and fish products sector accounting for 25% of this total.
Fishing has been the most important factor that largely contributes to the development of economic growth in the Atlantic maritime ecozone. The fisheries that were opened in this region thrived for more than 500 years due to the large supply of fish in the surrounding ocean. The Atlantic Ocean had large quantities of cod, salmon, and other types of fish.
