Harrison Bergeron vs 2081: Similarities and Differences

By: Sami and AriFerrari

Similarities

  • Harrison rips off all of his handicaps along with a ballerina who dances with him, leading to them getting shot at the end
  • Neither George or Hazel can remember Harrison getting taken away.

Why Were these similarites important

  • It showed what aspects they kept the same from the book into the movie. Also, it was important for the director to keep these elements to give just a more reaistic side to the book nothing else.
  • In the text and in the movie a lot of the lines were the same like, "Gee--- I could tell that one was a doozy." And "I always do."

TOPIC 3

Differences

  • George has flashbacks to the day Harrison was taken but they keep getting interupted by the annoying noises
  • The handicap weights are iron weights attached to leather straps in the movie, while in the book they were bags padlocked with birdshot in them.
  • Harrison says, "In my hand the is a detonator..." Which shows there is a bomb he will set off, and is a difference.

TOPIC 2

How did the differences affect our view?

TOPIC 3

  • Ariferrari: The differences show me that their society has many difficulties, yet some pros. The characters are all quite different, and Harrison wants to show people that he is better than everyone in charge and that they should make a change
  • Sami: The film's modifications made me realize that Harrison is a lot more powerful and different than I thought. It also made me realize that their society is a lot more complicated than most people hope will not come to us in the future.

Evaluation

  • Ariferrari: I liked the movie more because the handicaps seemed more logical and I could see it happening in the real world more. It is also more modernized.
  • Sami: I preffered the movie a little better because it gives a little more background information, gave a more realistic aspect to the plot, the more logical factor is present and also, it relates alot to the more modern world we live in. Last, by the director making slight changes to the plot he/she made the film easier to understand.
