HCOA Enrollment & Scheduling Process

Definition

Henry County Online Academy (HCOA) is for students who need to take one online class during their regular school day at their school. HCOA is an online program offering courses taught by HCS teachers/adjuncts as well as Imagine Learning instructors (formally known as Edgenuity). Students remain enrolled at their zone school and the student's counselor recommends and approves the appropriate online courses. Most of our students take one online credit per semester.

HCOA is not for full time enrollment. Impact Academy serves student in full-time online enrollment through a different program. Students are limited to one course credit per semester.

HCOA placeholders have been activated for each school. Once in IC, navigate to the search bar & select "Course/Section" from the drop down and then type "HCOA". You should then see the following placeholders available.

HCOA Students Withdrawing or Enrolling

HCOA Students withdrawing or Enrolling

If a student withdraws from your school/program (including EXCEL, IA, and AAS) and that student was enrolled in any HCOA courses, the counselor or data clerk should reach out to Kriesthe Young to inform her of the withdrawal from the home school. The student’s account/courses will then be suspended on the HCOA side of enrollment. If the student enrolls at another Henry County school, that school may request the account/courses be reinstated, as needed.

If a student enrolls in your school/program (including EXCEL, IA, and AAS) from another Henry County school and the student was enrolled in any HCOA courses, the new school/program counselor should determine whether or not it would be in the student’s best interest to continue on in the HCOA course they were previously enrolled in at the previous school/program. If it is determined to be in their best interest, the new counselor should reach out to Kriesthe Young to request the student account/course be reactivated.

Regardless of whether the student intends to continue on in their HCOA courses after withdrawal, the withdrawing school is required to reach out to Kriesthe Young to inform HCOA of the home school withdrawal at the time of withdrawal. It is imperative that all withdrawing schools complete this step in order to ensure that accurate enrollment records are kept and student progress in the course is not penalized.
