Tudor Family Tree

King Henry VII

-Was the First of the Tudor dynasty.

-Ended the War of Roses by marrying Elizabeth of York and unified the houses of York and Lanchester which started the Tudor dynasty

-Spent a lot of his early life in exile or hiding b/c of the civil war

-Arranged for his first son Arthur to marry Catherine of Aragon to build a good relationship with Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain but he died soon later.

-Tried to have another son after Arthur died but his wife and child didn’t make it

-Born June 28,1491 as the second son of Henry VII

-Only became king after his older brother Arthur died

-He weighed over 300 pounds

-He ordered about 72,000 executions during his reign

-He was the first king to be called “Your Majesty”

-He made a song that became super popular in Europe called “Pastime with Good company”

-He issued cheap currency after his funds ran low at the end of his reign and lowered the percentage of silver to where it was copper with a silver coating

-His first wife Catherine of Aragon was actually his older brother's betrothed but when he died, Henry married Catherine.

-He even had an illegitimate child named Henry Fitzroy and named him Duke of Richmond so he was well taken care of.

Edward VI became king at the age of nine upon the death of his father, Henry VIII, and a Regency was created.

· Edward VI was born on October 12, 1537, London England and died July 6, 1553, London)

· Was king of England and Ireland from 1547 to 1553.

· His father had arranged that a council of regency should rule on his behalf, but Edward's uncle, Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset, took power and established himself as protector.

· Henry’s last wife became a beloved mother to Edward and he adopted the zealous Protestantism which she championed. He also grew close to his half-sister Elizabeth, with whom he shared a household for some years.

· Henry VIII married Jane Seymour in shocking haste and, when she died less than two years later, he sought another wife immediately afterwards. This evident dislike of bachelorhood was a cornerstone of Henry’s adult life. But it shouldn’t imply that he didn’t grieve for Jane.

-Eldest daughter of Henry Grey and great-granddaughter of Henry VII.

She bec​​ame queen after the Death of her cousin.

-Queen of England for 9 days, and first English Queen to solo rule.

-Named after the 3rd wife of Henry the VIII, Jane Seymour.

-She was fluent in French, Italian, Latin, and Greek

-Loved reading books

-Her life was about as grey as her name.

-She pestered her cousin, Queen Mary, who later signed Jane’s death warrant.

She was Portestant, and labeled a martyr for the Protestant faith.

Mary I

-On February 18, 1516 Queen Mary I was born.

-Mary was a very devout catholic. So devout in fact, she would execute those who were prominent protestants which gave her the nickname “Bloody Mary”.

-She reversed the prodestant reforms set in by Edward VI and restored relations with the pope and also the Roman Catholic Church

-She imprisoned her half sister Elizabeth in the Tower of London

-She went on to marry King Philip of Spain and die without an heir.

-Although she died without an heir, her half sister Elizabeth would take the throne after Mary’s death.

-In September 1533, Elizabeth was born to Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII.

-She was imprisoned by her half sister Mary I. (Tower of London)

-When Mary died, Elizabeth I became Queen.

-Elizabeth I re-established England as a Protestant kingdom

-She is the only unmarried English Queen

-She was a polyglot- In addition to English, Elizabeth was fluent in French, Latin, and Italian, being able to even translate lengthy texts written in those languages

-She had a pretty bad temper and was prone to cursing and once threw a slipper at her courtier.

-People actually believed that she was a man. -They questioned why she didn’t want to marry and speculated that she suffered from something that didn’t allow her to conceive.

-There’s a theory that the real Elizabeth died early and they replaced her with the only redhead they could find-- a dude. This dude was presumed to keep up the act for the rest of his life

-Elizabeth I- executed as many Catholics as Mary burned Protestants.
