Colossal Collisions Individual Project
An asteroid called 'Etiam' has been spotted hurdling towards Earth at a rapid pace. Brilliant scientists from Ambrozich Laboratories are working on a solution to stop this impacting collision from happening.
If the scientists from Ambrozich Laboratories don't find a solution soon, Etiam will destroy Earth!
According to Newton's first law, objects in motion tend to stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. So, Etiam will continue to head towards Earth at a rapid pace unless another force acts upon it Something with enough force to either steer it away or destroy it.
According to Newton's second law, force equals mass times acceleration (F=ma). So, Etiam will move towards Earth even faster because of our Earth's gravity pulling it towards us.Gravity would count as a force moving the asteroid.
According to Newton's third law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So, this means there is an equal force out there that is strong enough to stop Etiam.
Scientist Kaitlyn Dunning from Ambrozich Laboratories has proposed a solution for this massacre.
Many Scientists from Ambrozich Laboratories have been brainstorming different ways of how to stop Etiam from coming towards Earth. Many theories have been tested, and many have failed, succeeded, and some were a 50/50 chance. Some scientists say that they should destroy it before it comes, some say we should block its path, and others say we should deflect the path.
All of the scientist's experiments were originally made from a cardboard box, string, various sized marbles, tape, styrofoam, a foam tube cut in half, forty pennies, two popsicle sticks, a rubber band, and a plastic spoon. The experiment that Kaitlyn Dunning tested, succeeded. The forty pennies represented Earth, the foam tube cut in half was the course Etiam is on, and the different sized marbles represented Etiam. The scientists would roll the marble down the tube and use all the other items to try to stop them. If they could stop the marble without knocking the pennies over, it was a success. Scientist Kaitlyn Dunning succeeded in one of her experiments by abruptly stopping the asteroid with her group of styrofoam held together by a rubber band and put in front of the asteroid. All together held by tape. The marble would roll down the tube, and completely stop when it came to the styrofoam, saving the pennies (Earth). Therefore, success!
It has been decided that Etiam will be stopped abruptly and completely blocking its path to Earth. We need to use a wall or a ship that is large enough as to where Etiam will crash into that and hopefully destroy itself and the wall or item.
