"Languages" Carl Sandburg- influence by the early 20th century

Choose two poems and create a presentation explaining the ways in which the literary works were influenced by the events of this time period.

At the time Carl Sandburg published languages, World War 1 had already begun. His poem contains several indications that this war influenced him dramatically. For example, the men that "take hold of" the languages and travel from nation to nation crossing boarders and mixing, could be symbolic of how once different nations collided. Similarly, as men die in battle, so do their "languages."Additionally, "breaking a new course, changing its way to the ocean" represents how the war changed the dormant nature of these nations and forced them to embark on a new course of battle.

"Stopping by Woods On a Snowy Evening" By Robert Frost influence by the early 20th century.

Robert Frost published his poem in the wake of Ghandi's ideals and visions for the future. I believe this movement is present in Frost's poem, as he speaks of nations who have been damaged by world wars and mending the damage won't be easy Robert Frost mentions "without a farmhouse nearby.".There was a time when giving up, since times were so difficult ("the darkest evening of the year"), seemed like an easy way out, but in the end, he concludes, "miles to go before sleeping" is that no matter how long and far until peace is reached, they cannot give up.
