What is a Hurricane?

A hurricane is a large rotating tropical weather system with high speeds

They form over oceans and are created when warm, moist air rises.

Where did it happen?

It was located near South America, hitting countries all around the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Where/when did it happen?

Facts

  • Hit land on September 17, 2017
  • Had wind speeds of 175 MPH
  • Was a Category 5 Hurricane
  • Rain and wind lasted for more than 30 hours

How did it effect them?

The storm caused alot of damage. It kill over a hundred people and injurying many more. To repair the places that were hit would cost $91.6 billion in repairs

How does It look today?

Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic look like this today. Most of the area that has been hit is still being rebuilt.

What did meteorologists do about this before it hit?

Maria formed from an African easterly wave that moved across the tropical Atlantic Ocean during the week of September 10th to September 17th, 2017. This was found using a weather satelite.
