Father of Jem and Scout, Unknown parents or wife. Has a strong sense of justice and high morals, wanting to show his kids how to love everyone.
Uncle of Jem and Scout, most commonly called ¨Uncle Jack. John has a very close connection with Jem and Scout because of his willingness to admit his wrongdoings and his loyalty. Very respectful and I hope to see more of him in the future of the book.
Alexandra is the aunt of Jem and Scout and lives in Finches Landing with her husband. So far throughout the book she has been portrayed as the perfect southern lady and wants Scout to look up to her and be more like her. Most of the town seems to really like and respect her as when she first arrived she was greeted with various goods upon her arrival. I think she may pose as more of a villain of the story rather than the hero because her beliefs differ the rest of the family.
Scout is the daughter of Atticus. She is the main character of the story, and very much a tomboy. Unlike her brother, scout generally has good faith in everyone in her community and is much like her father in many ways .She is curious and very brave. Her intelligence carries her very far.
Jem is the son of Atticus, and one of the other main characters of the story. We see a continual character growth in him throughout the entire book and him true grow into adolescence. Hes very empathetic as he always tries to support Scout when she feels down, and hes very brave and curious much like Scout.
Calpurnia is the finch family house cook, and though she is not directly related she has been with them long enough to be considered family. He has sort of taken on the mother figure to Scout. Although Calpurnia can tend to be extremely strict and demanding she still shows a lot of respect to the children. Shes a very important character as she gives the readers a glimpse into the black community during this time.
Dill is a friend Jem and Scout and visits them every summer. He is from Meridian, Mississippi and throughout the beginning of the book his main goal is to get Boo Radley to come out of his house. I feel as though he is learning the ways of May comb just like Scout and Jem.
Bob is the father and head of the Ewell household. He is basically known as the disgrace of Maycomb because of his poor lifestyle and general distaste for people.
Bobs eldest daughter of the ewell household. Very important character in the second half of the book because she is accusing Tom Robinson of rape. Very troubled girl with a hard life.
Tom Robinson
Tom is a hardworking man who lives and works in Maycomb. He was always perceived as a respectable man until he is accused of the rape of Mayella Ewell.
Mr Radley is the father of Boo Radley and described as a ¨Thin leathery man.¨ He seems almost like a ghost as he walks through May comb everyday, and he is almost as much of a mystery as Boo Radley. There's still not a lot to know about him .
Son of Mr. Radley, Boo is a very mysterious character in the novel, and fills the imaginations of Scout, Dill, and Jem. Although there is many rumors about him, he appears to be a good- hearted person as he leaves little gifts for the kids.
Mrs. Dubose is a neighbor of the Finches. She is quite elderly and still has a very racist mindset, but the children do admire her for battling with her morphine addiction.
Miss Maudie is another one of the finches neighbors. She is talked about as a widow who shares a lot of similar beliefs and morals as Atticus, making her a very close friend to Scout and Jem.
Heck tate is the sheriff of maycomb, and seen as a major witness throughout the trial. Hes a lifelong resident who is shown as a mostly decent man seeking justice.
Dolphus Raymond writes for the Maycomb newspaper. For the last few chapters he has been shown being around the kids. He pretends to be a drunk man so that the people of Maycomb have an explanation for his behavior, when in reality he believes Maycomb is very hypocritical and prefers the presence of black people.
