Middle Schoolers are more likely to prefer perceptual, kinesthetic, and tactile learning over auditory learning. Visual modalities develop during adolescence. The research seems to suggest that auditory learning develops last (Griggs and Price, 1980).
This may explain why young children will demonstrate giftedness through early mobility over linguistic ability.
