Mostly women were the caretakers during this time period. Most of the illnesses and sickness were treated from folk remedies (herbs, household items, food products).
An increase of hospitals began to pop up throughout America so that surgeries could be done.

The wars during this time period brought many diseases and illnessess due to thousands of soliders living in harsh conditions and severe cold weather.
