Congress approves presidential nominations and controls the budget. It can pass laws over the presidents veto. They can also impeach the president.

The Legislative Branch

The President

House of Representatives; senate.

House and Senate can veto each others bills

The president can veto congressional legislation

Executive office of the president; executive and cabinet departments; independent government agencies

The president nominates judges

The court can declare laws unconstitutional

The Judicial Branch

The reason we have Checks and Balances is so one branch doesn't gain more power than the other.

The court can declare presidential acts unconstitutional

Supreme Court; courts of appeal; district courts

The senate confirms the president's nominations. Congress can impeach and remove judges

The Executive Branch

This branch includes the president, the vice president, and the cabinet.

This branch enforces the laws.

Role: her only constitutional duty is to preside over the Senate. Vice presidents cannot vote in the Senate, except to break a tie, nor may they formally address the Senate, except with the senators' permission.

Role: they advise the President on any subject he may require relating to the duties of each member's respective office

Role: he is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress and, to that end, appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the Cabinet.

The Judicial Branch interprets the laws that have been proposed and decide if why align with the constitution. They can also declare acts of congress unconstitutional as well as executive action.
