Introduction

Do you know who you are?

The world has an Identity problem. We don't know who we are.

We want to have duel citizenship in two kingdoms one that perishing and one that's eternal

Who are you?

For the one that's perishing we really want to fit in.

we try so hard to make a name for ourselves here we love labels because the give us this feeling of importance. our jobs , our political affiliation, the friends we hang out with. we love the idea of success.

What happens when the label no loner applies. we lose our job, our candidate doesn't win, and our friends are nowhere to be found.

Stay come and read clearly. you are doing great God loves you.

Son of Man

Trend 1

Read Matthew 16:13

Son of Man is the common phrase Jesus used to refer to His humanity. The title is found Daniel 7:13-14

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man. coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Trend 2

Jesus' Humanity

Jesus lived as a man and went through the same trails and struggles we go through, but without sin.

Hebrew4:15

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

The Bible tells us that Jesus was hungry, thirsty, weary, cried blood, and suffered death.

Jesus knows whats it's like to be human

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

These comments come form those who have witnessed the miracles Jesus performed.

They saw Jesus as one of the prophets. The Prophets had granted authority.

Trend 3

Elijah and Elisha: Double portion

They see Jesus as having granted authority

Give army illustration

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Son of God

He got the outside view now its time for the inside view. Who do you say I am?

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Peter is not claiming granted authority here. He is saying that Jesus has all authority. He is God

Solution 1

now Peters claim holds alot of weight because Peter is placing Jesus on par with God

Do you remember the sin that Jesus was accused of that led to his crucifixion? Blasphemy

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

The Farther is letting the chosen in on the plan. He is not waiting til the resurrection because that was the ultimate sign that Jesus truly is God. All authority.

Solution 2

I like shopping for Gabby's Birthday, i want to let the my boys in on it. they always spill the the beans

18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be. bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Solution 3

Jesus gave Peter a Kingdom name and Kingdom responsibility and he does the same for you and me and all believers.

Kingdom responsibility

who's responsibility is it to go and make disciples? Every believer.

the church is supposed to be a force in the world combating with the forces of hell and bringing forth the kingdom of heaven.

Solution 4

People have problems

We have the power to bind the sins and loose blessings.

so i ask why is it that 20% does 100% of the work at church.

What can we Do?

#1. I want you to know that your identity is firmly rooted in Christ. Peter denied Jesus but Jesus never denied Peter.

Working Together

#2. The Kingdom is coming and People are perishing. It truly is a life and death responsibility we have

#3. Love one another that's our appeal. we all have to address or bias. We all have them with the help of Holy Spirit we can.
