Vegetation

  • We have a very wide range of vegetation here in the Western Cordillera, spaning from dense forests to low grass lands and small plains.
  • The vegetation is very much affected by the mountain elevation.
  • We have a very diverse population of trees, some of them are the Douglas Fir, the Western Red Cedar, and the Shore pine.

Vegetation

Animals

  • The Western Cordillera has a big variety of horned animals who live here, including: the Moose, the White and Black Tailed Deer, the Big Horned Sheep, the Mule Deer, and the Elk.
  • We also have have an abundunce of birds, such as: Water Fowl, Grouse, Sea Gulls, and Bald Eagles to name a few.
  • There are also Black and Brown Bears who live in Parts of the Western Cordillera, as do some types of Wolves.

Rock types

  • Metallic Minearals are the most common types of rock in the Western Cordillera; these are found in igneous rocks formed from volcanic rocks.
  • There are also non Metallic Minerals called Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks found in the region.
  • Energy minerals such as fossil fuels, like coal are very common.

Climate

  • Western Cordillera has a maritime climate that is usually wet and cold.
  • Above freezing winters in some places that keeps things green but very wet.
  • Percipitation in all times of the year.
  • Winters in Western Cordillera are very different throughout the region where some areas get lots of snow and others just get rain due to temperature.
  • Summers on the coast side get fairly warm with temperatures up to 25°C, and summers in the north get up to 15°C.

Population

  • Population: about 5.12 m

  • 4.7 m from British Colombia

  • 36 000 from Yukon Territories

  • 400 000 from Alberta

  • 2 100 from North West Territories

Urban Development

  • The Western Cordillera hosts many job and money making opportunities. Some of these include Tourism, manufacturing, and trading in Victoria and Vancouver; to agriculture, forestry, mining, and hunting in the nothern parts which allows our new provinces economy to grow.
  • Some popular schools that our region hosts is UBC, SFU, UV amd YC.
  • Many modern job opportunities such as the arts, movies, and technology have opened up in major cities.

Economy

  • The Western Cordillera has a large quantity of natural resources, like: trees, water, an abundunce of fish, and mines enriched with valuable minerals like gold, copper, coal, lead, iron, and silver.
  • Our biggest industries are forestry and tourism, because of our dense forests and our beautiful coast. Fisheries and mining are also sizeable industries that create many jobs in our province.

What would make it successful?

  • We have a strong and sizeable economy.
  • A big, but not over sized population to support the economy and help it grow.
  • Our province has renewable and non renewable resources that if conserved and protected will provide for us for along time to come.
  • We have enough land to support a population growth, and still have a lot of untouched land left over.

What would make it unsuccessful?

  • Different laws in each province that would have to be changed to all be the same.
  • It would be hard for the government to choose what to spend money on.
  • Choices for government would vary do to the different places that you live leaving lots of people unhappy that have less of a population.
  • People would protest and agrue that they liked the old borders more.
  • The Yukon area would be left out as most of the funding would go to highly populated areas like Vancouver, Victoria and so on.

Any Future Issues?

  • Some of the industries can run out in the far future: mining, forestery, and fishing.
  • People maybe would not like the province changes and want to move out which would make the population decrease.
  • Governing people in all areas may be challening because of how diverse the people and land are.
  • In some areas it is very populated where other areas are not. Yukon territories might have differnet needs than the big cities which could become a problem.

Should North Washington become a Province?

  • Our group believes that North Washington should become a province because it has great industries to upkeep the economy. North Washington has enough people for its land size, and it is a very diverse place that will become a great province for the future.
  • North Washington will have to worry about some of its industries running out in the long run but they can recover if they seek out alternative, cleaner energy sources such as hydro power.
  • Overall, North Washington has more pros than cons therefore it should become a new province.

More Reasons Why

  • We think that the people in Western Cordillera will want to seperate from the other regions because it has a great economy and enough population to maintain its size.
  • We think with all the resources that our region has it can support itself economically, and will continue to develop for the needs of the future people.
