Bioimpedance measurements are used to assess the electrical properties of tissues and organs. This information can be used to diagnose a variety of medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) are made of soft, deformable materials that are inflated with air to create motion. SPAs are well-suited for a wide range of applications, including bioimpedance measurements.
In this study, we present the design and implementation of a variable inclined air pillow SPA suitable for bioimpedance applications. The SPA is made of a soft, silicone rubber material and is inflated with air. The air pillow is inclined at an angle, which allows the SPA to move in a variety of directions. The SPA is controlled by a microcontroller, which allows it to be precisely positioned.
The SPA actuator has different geometrical parameters like the number of air pillows (N), wall thickness (t), total length (L), air pillow height (h), total air pillow height and the inclination angle of air pillow (β).
The proposed SPA, is studied at different β from 0° to 20° and actuator total length (L) is dependent on β angle.
The variable inclined air pillow SPA is a promising new technology for bioimpedance measurements.
The SPA is soft, compliant, and easy to use.
The SPA can be used to gently grasp objects during bioimpedance measurements, which helps to prevent damage to the tissue and ensures accurate measurements.
