Objectives for this unit:

Warm-up

  • To learn vocabulary to sport, sports venues and equipment.
  • To learn and use the present continuous.
  • To understand and practice the difference between the present simple continuous, learn and use state verbs correctly.
  • To use punctuation correctly in writing

Reading

Focus on the pictures, and ask: Do you do these things on holiday? Do you think they are fun? Which do you want to do? Why? Elicit a range of replies.

Put students into pairs. Give them two minutes to write as many words for family members as they can. See which pair got the most correct work.

  • Ask students questions about their family, e.g.Where do your grandparents live? How many cousins have you got? Where do your cousins live? As students answer, write affirmative and negative sentences on the board, e.g. My grandparent live in Santiago. (Maria's) grandparent don't live in Madrid. (Pedro) has got four cousins. One cousin live in Berlin. Underline the verbs and ask: Do they refer to the past, present or future? (the presents)
