Mr. Darcy makes his first appearance at the Meryton Ball. His handsome qualities and the fact that he makes over ten thousand pounds a year is instantly recognized by the woman at the ball. When he makes no effort to dance with any women or attempt conversation and insults Elizabeth, he is branded as one of the most rude and arrogant men of the town.
Event 2:
Elizabeth visits her ill sister, Jane, at Netherfield and it becomes apparant how interested Bingley is in Jane. While Elizabeth is visiting, Darcy begins to realize how different she is from other girls and he feels as if he is slowly becoming attracted to her. Darcy is sure to engage in little conversation with Elizabeth in order to repress his increasing feelings for her.
Elizabeth meets Wickham in Meryton and begins to like him, she notices Darcy shooting rude glances his way and is shocked that he is acting so rude. Wickham tells Elizabeth many unbelivable things about he and Darcy’s past, for example, that Wickham was supposed to be a clergyman and live on their estate but Darcy wouldn't allow it and now Wickham is forced to work, which increases her hate towards Darcy.

After barely getting to know Mr. Collins, Elizabeth receives a marriage proposal from him, but refuses. Her mother is shocked and disappointed, but Elizabeth does not agree with the idea of marrying just for the money. Mr. Collins recovers quickly, confirming that he did not truly love Elizabeth, and then proposes to Elizabeth’s best friend, Charlotte, who happily accepts. This weakens Elizabeth's relationship with her friend and her mother.
Bingley and his whole party leave Netherfield for London. Jane’s heart is broken when she finds out they are attempting to becoming closer with Georgina Darcy (Mr. Darcy's sister). Elizabeth knows that Miss Bingley is trying to prevent her brother from falling in love with Jane, who is from an inferior social class. Jane moves to stay wither aunt and uncle, the Gardiner’s, in London and Mr. Bingley is unaware of this.
Elizabeth leaves to visit Charlotte and Mr. Collins in Hunsford. Darcy arrives on Lady Catherine’s estate where Elizabeth is staying, he is kind and friendly to her. Charlotte is convinced he has strong feelings for her and Elizabeth may think she is beginning to feel the same about him.
Colonel Fitzwilliam has a conversation with Elizabeth and he reveals to her that Mr. Darcy convinced Mr. Bingley not to marry Jane too quickly or make a rash decision. He believed Jane was just marrying Bingley because of his money. Elizabeth grows very angry and is convinced that Mr. Darcy said this because of Jane's inferior social class. All of her previous feelings towards Mr. Darcy turned to anger because he brought her sister so much unhappiness.
Darcy proposes to Elizabeth right after she receives the shocking news from Colonel Fitzwilliam. He explains that he tried to suppress his feelings for her because of her social class but that he truly loves her. Elizabeth is in disbelief and refuses, she does not want to marry someone as arrogant as him and someone who acted so carelessly towards her sister's feelings.
The next day on her walk, Darcy hands Elizabeth a letter explaining his actions and relationships. He explains he now knows that he was wrong about Jane not loving Bingley, but he was worried about how everyone in the family would react. Darcy explains that Wickham lied about everything he told her and he really used up all the money Darcy gave him and then returned in an attempt to marry into the Darcy family (the sister) and inherit their money.
After rereading it enough times to have the letter memorized, Elizabeth realizes that she was the one being prejudice towards Darcy and immediately feels a fool, but it is too late, she finds out that Darcy had already left. Elizabeth returns home and tries to forget about the man she once despised, but she can’t, for she realizes that they are so alike. Everything Darcy had explained in the letter made sense to her and he did not deserve to be at fault.
Elizabeth realizes not only her mom but her dad is at fault for the problems in their family. She realizes that he always shuts everyone out and criticizes his wife. Elizabeth knows she must take yet another break from her family so she takes her summer vacation with her aunt and uncle to visit Derbyshire where Darcy’s estate Pemberley is located.
Elizabeth and Darcy unexpectedly meet at Pemberley. Darcy acts very politely towards Elizabeth. Her aunt and uncle are very fond of him and Elizabeth finds out that the whole town sees him as very generous and suitable. Elizabeth believes he may still have feelings for her and she is starting, once again, to feel the same about him.
Lydia, Elizabeth’s sister, runs away to Scotland with Wickham who everyone knows, but Lydia, that eventually he'll abandon her. Once she is abandoned, she'll never be able to marry a respectable man, and her sisters might not, either. Darcy heard of the conflict and secretly settled Wickham's debts and gave him a fortune if he promised to marry Lydia and stay committed to her.
Once back at home, Lady Catherine visits Elizabeth and tells her that Mr. Darcy and her daughter are meant to be together. She tries to make Elizabeth promise that she will not become engaged to Mr. Darcy, but Elizabeth says she will not promise anything. This gives Mr. Darcy hope. He realizes that, if Elizabeth did not care for him at all, she would have let Lady Catherine know that she was not into him.
Darcy comes back from London and he and Elizabeth share their true feelings for each other, she is so thankful for what he had done for her family. They are both so in love and become engaged.
Everyone in the family is confused that Elizabeth would marry such a rude man but she takes his defense and explains that he has changed greatly and that they don’t know what he is really like. She explains that she didn't marry for his money but because they were truly in love. Eventually everyone is very happy for them.
