The Trojon War ends

All of the solders returned home. All solders execpt Odysseus, who was stuck with Calypso becuase she was in love with him. This is significant because it caused Odysseus to be separated from his family, and he was unable to go back home.

Athena comes to Ithaca

She talks to Odyseuss son, Telemachus. She arrives disguised as one of Odysseus' old friends. This event is significant because Athena thought that Odysseus was still alive, and sent Telemachus on a path to get information on his father.

The gods meet at Mount Olympus

Athena makes a speech about wanting to help Odysseus and gains the support of Zeus. They send hermes over to the island to free Odysseus. This is significant because now Odyseus is free to return home.

Poseidon stirs up a storm

Poseidon sees Odysseus and realizes what the gods have done while he was away at the island of Etheopeans. Poseidon gets furios and makes a storm in the water around Odesseus' ship. The goddess Ino sees Oyseus and gives him something to keep him safe. This is important because it starts the rivalry between Poseidon and Odysseus.

Zeus sends a storm

This storm sends Odyseuss and his troops on a nine-day trip to the land of the Lotus-eaters. While they are there all of Odysseus' troops eat the intoxicating fruit and refuse to leave. This is significant because the men are intoxicated by the time they reach the land of the Cyclops.

Odyseuss kills the cyclops

After Odysseus leaves the land of the lotus-eaters, he and his crew arrive at the land of the cyclops and break into Polyphemus house. Polyphemus catches them and eats a few of his men. Because of that Odysseus takes a hot wooden stick and shoves it through the cyclops eye. This is important because Polyphemus is the son of Poseidon, and after he was attacked he prayed that his father would seek vengeance against Odysseus

Aeolus gives Odysseus a gift

After leaving the land of the Cyclops, Odysseus and his crew arrive at the home of Aeolus. Aeolus gave Odyseus a bag of wind to help him sail. While at sea, some of Odysseus' crew mates think the bag is filled with gold and open it. This is important because it shows that some of his crewmates are greedy and wanted to take the money for themselves.

Circe drugs Odysseus crew

After Odysseus and his crew arrive in Aeaea, Circe drugs a few of his men and turns them into pigs. Odysseus takes a herb to protect himself from Circe's powers. Eventually Odysseus and Circe become lovers, and start living together, but Odyseus is convinced by his crew to continue his journey home. This part is important because before Odysseus leaves Circe sends him on a mission.

Odysseus goes to the land of the dead

Odysseus is sent by Circe to the land of the dead. While there Odysseus meets with Tiresias the profit and he tells Odysseus his fate. Odysseus ran into his mother who is now deceased and asked about life back home. This is important because Odysseus received more information about his wife and family back home.

While Odysseus and his crew wait for a storm to pass on Thrinacia, the crew gets hungry. They decide to kill some of the cattle while Odysseus is asleep. This part is important because once the sun finds out, Zeus is informed and sends a storm to Odysseus and is group.
