1st. Rule to add -ing
Add -ing to most of the verbs
First Rule
They are singing in a concert.
Add -ing to the base form of the verbs
SING + -ing
singing
cook + -ing = cooking
walk + -ing = walking
eat + -ing = eating
speak + -ing = speaking

2nd. Rule to add -ing
The final three letters are "consonant - vowel - consonant" that is why we have double the consonant mm, pp, tt, nn.
Second Rule
They are swimming in the pool.
Double the final consonant in some verbs

run + n + -ing = running
