The Journey To Change

Sarah Siddiqui

Introduction

Introduction

  • Where I am Now

  • The Destination

Today I am very excited to go on this trip to, hopefully, better me as a person and change the way I view the world. Right now, I think that I am a bit closed-minded and that I have not changed as a person in a very long time. My goal on is to overcome one fear or problem that might set me back in the future every day on this three-day journey and improve the skills and knowledge that I lack. I will make a journal entry at the end of each day and explain my adventure and what I overcame.

Where I Am Now

The Destination

The destination I will be going to for my mind-changing adventure will be Paris, France. I chose this place to visit because there is many things that can be done and they are all different. It is also the place I would choose to visit, opening my mind and choosing somewhere that will help me change

The First Day

The Carrousel du Louvre

This is a venue where a fashion show was held and it featured dresses from Chanel, Balenciaga, Celine, and many other popular brands. Before the show started, I was very worried and stressed about talking to people for more than a few hours, but afterward, I was happy that I went. I was able to get tickets because of personal relationships and I had seats very close to the runway, where there was a lot of socializing with big brands. There was a lot of people. When I was waiting in line, I talked to a giant group of designers that helped with styling the dress.

What I Learned

I learned how to socialize to a large group of people without getting nervous. As seen on my surveys, I am quite the introvert and it can be overwhelming when talking to a huge group of people. It was extremely frightening when talking to the designers since they were dressing intimidatingly and there was a lot of them. However, I learned how to breath through social situations and not get scared as easily. This can help me in the future if I ever need to present something during a meeting or if my chosen career path requires me to be social. Even though I still might feel uncomfortable in social situations, I think that this was good practice and I will push myself to go to highly social situations more often.

The Second Day

The Louvre Museum

This Museum had many forms of art embedded in it and the people that came, had come with an open mind. There was very to exquisite architectural designs, sculptures and paintings. After many hours hours of socializing the day before, I decided to take today to quietly interpret the pieces of art and keep to myself.

How I Changed

Using the surveys I did, I learned that my three top courses are all S.T.E.M. based courses and that arts is at the bottom of the list. I took today to appreciate and learn more about arts and try to increase my knowledge on the history of them. I think that even if my chosen final career does not include any courses in the arts field, I can still use the knowledge of interpreting, understanding, and having an open mind, in the future.

The Third Day

Au Pied de Cochon

Today I went to a marvelous restaurant where I spent over an hour understanding and enjoying the food. It tasted delicious and I had a good sensation with every bite. I was able to have the pleasure of meeting the chef that created my meal and watching him create another meal. While watching him, I saw how much passion he put into making the meal and how much effort and love went into making the delectable meal. When speaking with the chef, he told me that when creating the dish that I had, he needed to think and feel at the same time. He told me that he needed to understand how his customer would feel while eating his food, but also think about how to make it and the chemistry.

What I Learned

After today, I learned about hard work and passion. I learned about how putting work, time, and effort into doing something that you love is very important and pays off. I also learned about how I need to feel as much as I should think with what ever I do. Even when I decide on a career, I want to understand how I feel about it as much as thinking about how it benefits me because this chef has inspired me to put passion into the work I do for as long as I possibly can.

Conclusion

All in all

This trip allowed me to learn many lessons and gave me a deeper understanding of what to do. I understand what I am good at and what field I want to get into, but I finally understand that the real reason I wanted to go on this journey was to become a well-rounded person, knowing reading text, computer use, working with others, numeracy and many other different skills. Life is all about balance and I think that it is very important to appreciate, know, and learn a variety of things and that this trip had encouraged me to always try to do something new. I learned that with all jobs, all of the skills are needed and if new skills are made and goals are achieved, I will always grow and keep on changing. Changing yourself means changing your surroundings as well, and I want to always be in an environment where I am always learning, changing and understanding new sides of myself.
