THE GRAN CANYON
TECHER:: MISS BERNARD
The Grand Canyon is located in the USA. The state is Arizona, there is a river : named Colorado
The width of the grand canyon is 5500 to 30 000 m.
The length of the grand canyon is 450 km.
The depth of the grand canyon is 1 300 m.
TEMPERATURES
Temperatures vary between the north (colder because higher) and the south of the park. They are different depending on whether you are on the plateau or at the bottom of the canyon: summer is particularly hot and dry at this altitude.
At night, the drop in temperatures generates a cold fog.
TOURISM AND HIKING
A glass bridge called "Grand Canyon Skywalk" was inaugurated on March 20, 2007 at Grand Canyon WestN 2. It allows visitors to be 1300 meters above the void.
Since the nineteenth century, Man modifies the environment of the Grand Canyon. Deforestation and fires are forcing the forests of the northern zone backwards and threatening wildlife.
This peculiarity makes that the hike in the Grand Canyon can become dangerous; it is very easy to get off and much more difficult to climb.
fFAUNA
There are 355 bird species, 89 mammals, 47 reptiles, 9 amphibians, 17 fish, and thousands of invertebrate species in the Grand Canyon Park.
The cougar, lynx, coyote and goat of the Rocky Mountains are mammals that live on both shores, but they are difficult to observe.Many species are threatened or endangered.

Oxyloma haydeni kanabensis is a snail that we meet in some grasslands of the park. Gila cypha and Xyrauchen texanus are two fish that live in Colorado and its tributaries. Pelecanus occidentalis californicus or California brown pelican and Empidonax traillii are also very rare.
