-Muhammad was born in Makka (Mecca) around 570 CE.
-The city was very wealthy and many believed it to be a holy city.
-The people of Mecca were polytheistic
-Muhammad's father died before he was born and his mother died when he was just 6 years old.
-His grandfather then took care of him - but he died when Muhammad was 8 years old.
-Muhammad was then cared for by his uncle Abu Talib

-Muhammad worked as a camel driver and then as a trader.
-He was very honest and earned the nichname 'Al-Amin' - 'The trustworthy one'
-He started to work for Khadijah who owned one of the camel trains.

-They had 4 daughters and 2 sons together.
