What Is Criminal Justice?

What is Criminal Justice?

Criminal Justice is the justice delivered to those who go against the law. There are three major systems that work hand in hand to catch, detain, and correct these peoples actions.

Whos Involved?

There are three major components to this system

Who is involved in Criminal Justice?

Law Enforcement

Law Enfrocement

Law Enforcement is the system that is our police force. They work to prevent any sort of disturbances.

If any disturbances are called in or the officers catch someone that is causing an issue they attempt to catch the criminal and detain them until they are sent to the court system.

The Court System

Court System

The Court System is where the convict is sent to be put on trial. Depending on the outcome of the trial depends on whether the convict is released or if they are sent to the corrections branch.

Corrections System

The Corrections System is where the convicts are sent. This branch is the count/state/ federal prisions. The convicts are kept here in a place with no privacy to refrom them.

After their sentence is served they are given a chance of parole. This is a period where they are watched by an officer to ensure they do not repeat an action or relapse.

What Steps are involved (#1)

There is a bunch of steps involved in the Criminal Justice System. From catching the convict, to sending them to court, and sending them to the corrections branch.

What are the steps involved?

The First Step

The First step is investigating a scene. If an inccedent happened in a location officers will come look at the scene and collect all evidence if the case requires.

1

Catching the Convict

2

The second step is catching the convict. If its a easy case, such as a store clerk caught someone stealing. The officers arrive and arrest the convict if charges are pressed.

If it is a bigger case the officers will follow evidence, clues, and searches to find and catch the convict.

What happens if they are charged or not?

3

If the conivct isn't charged, such as a convience store owner says they won't press charges on a child, they are usually sent free with out any reprocussions from Law Enfrocement

If the convict is charged, they are sent a summons, held in the county jail, or have a bench warrent signed for their arrest.

Arraingments

No matter which way the convict is summoned to the courts, they are to go through an arraignment and pre-trial process. If they are sent to trail biased off of probable cause a bail may be set, or not.

What Steps are involved (#2)

Theres a bunch of steps involved in the Criminal Justice System. From catching the convict, to sending them to court, and the corrections branch.

What are the steps invovled?

What Happens During Pre-Trial?

5

During the Pre-Trial there are several events that can develop. The convict can either Plea guilty and take the sentence,

push for a trial to prove their innocence, or be dismissed. Dismissals are for those who are found innocent before the trial.

The Time for the Trial is also set.

If the convict and attorney push for the case to be pushed to court they set up a court date for the trial, and offer the last chance for plea bargain.

6

The Trial Commences

7

The defendant arrives with his or her attorney and prosecutor. The attorney

and prosecutor will cross examine witness to prove the defendants innocence or guilt. Evidence collected throughout the investigation will also be used to sway the jury and judges opinion about the defendant.

The End Of the Trial

8

At the end of the trial the defendant is given their fate. If they are found guilty then they are given their sentence and sent away to corrections usually. If they are found innocent they get released to go home free.

If they are found guilty the defendant and attorney can choose to push it to the next level of court due to a mistrial. Mistrials can be due to a list of causes. Racist judge or jury, Tampered evidence, or a faulty trial.
