Unit 3
Perspective taking is the ability to see situations and events from the point of view of another person.
Perspective taking, like the core practice and other mindful skills, takes practice to develop. When we try to see other people's point of view, we learn to think with an "open mind" - to pause and consider other viewpoints mindfully. Being open minded helps us problem solve, develop better friendships and learn more about ourselves.
When we have a problem to solve, looking at it from different angles or PERSPECTIVES can help us find a creative solution.
The ability to monitor our emotions and thoughts is key to understanding ourselves better, liking who we are, and proactively managing our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Imagine you are sitting on a blanket next to a tree having a picnic with your friend.
Your friend's dog is there, playing in the grass.
There is an ant on the blanket moving towards your food.
There is also a bird sitting in the tree.
Draw the perspective from either the Dog, Ant or Bird.
What would they see? How is their point of view different from yours?
