Recently A.I. and A.I. art has become more innovative and every day the technology is improving. This innovation comes with consequences however. Artificial intelligence is creating a problem in the art world because it is creating art that wins competitions and cannot be discerned from art created by human artists who have honed their skills for years.
Examples of A.I. Art
A.I. art is art that is created by artificial intelligence. Programs use machine learning to turn a prompt into an image. Developers of A.I. art create programs that analyze thousands of images to help it understand specific styles, palettes, and aesthetics. A.I. art has been around for longer than most would think and one of the earliest forms of A.I. art was Harold Cohen's program "AARON" which was created in 1973 and could draw basic shapes. Since then programs such as Dalle 2 and Midjourney have been created. Over the years this technology has become more advanced and can turn a sentence into a complex image.

A.I. art and the technology behind it has a lot of potential. The machine learning technology being used for A.I. art can also be used to complete tasks such as authenticating paintings. A Swiss company named Art Recognition has already started using this technology to authenticate paintings such as "Samson and Delilah" and Van Gogh's "Self-portrait". This technology can also make it easier to become an artist because you could ask it to do something such as create an image but in black and white so you could change the colors as you please.

In recent times A.I. art has become controversial because it cannot be discerned from art that is created by a human. A.I. art has won competitions such as the Colorado State Fair. Another reason why A.I. art is considered controversial is because many consider it plagiarism. Many consider A.I. art plagiarism because it uses a database of art created by human artists to create its art. The reason why AI systems like Midjourney can approximate such a high level of detail is that they have been trained on images, some of which are copyrighted works by real artists. There has been a lot of controversy about A.I. in general taking jobs and that also applies to the arts because companies may start using A.I. instead of commissioning artists. This technology can also be used to create deepfakes or fake videos that are used to spread misinformation.

Although A.I. is exciting and may seem like the future it is dangerous because it is beginning to blur the lines between human and machine. A.I. art threatens jobs and plagiarizes from artists to create its images. Not only this but it can also be used to create deepfakes which are dangerous to our country as they can be used to spread misinformation which is already rampant in our society. Regulation from the government is one step that can be taken to stop technology like this from continuing but as people, we should look down upon this technology because of its negative effect on our society.
