Recycling
Advantages;
- Natural reserves of metal ores will last longer.
- The need to mine ores is reduced. Mining can damage the landscape.
- Less pollution may be produced. example, Sulfur dioxide is formed if we mine from metal sulfide ores.
- Many Metals require less energy to recycle
- Less waste ends up in Landfill sites.
Disadvantages
- Costs of collecting and sorting through
- Cost of transportation.
- Sometimes is more expensive to extract than new material.

An LCA is produced to determine the worth of recycling any given material. In this data on production of the material is considered against data on recycling efforts.
Collecting Aluminum
For Example:
- 5.5Kg of Bauxite produces 1.9Kg of Aluminium Oxide which creates 1Kg of Aluminium.
- 0.3kg is burnt from the anodes
- 285MJ of energy is required to change bauxite in 1Kg of Aluminium.
- 14MJ of energy is required to recycle 1Kg of Aluminium.
