The story of the serial killer that roamed London

No one truly knows and understands who Jack the Ripper was. Some believe he was a chef from Texas named Maurice. Others believe that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman named Jill the Ripper. It was also thought that a man named Lewis Carroll was the killer because he confessed in anagrams.

Who was Jack the Ripper?

Jack the Ripper was an unidentified serial killer that lived in London, killing numerous women in the year of 1888, between the months of August to November. He mainly murdered women near Spitalfields and the Whitechapel area, giving him his well-known nickname, The Whitechapel Murderer.

Who did Jack the Ripper murder?

Whitechapel Murderer

Nobody quite knows the reasoning behind the 5 women that he killed around this time period, but many believe that it was because of rage or just plain insanity. Historians haven't even gathered the information about how many citizens of London Jack the Ripper truly killed, but only 5 were found and identified by police. These women (Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, Mary Jane Kelly) were called the "canonical five."

Why was Jack the Ripper never caught?

Jack the Ripper was never caught for one reason, and that is because Jack the Ripper killed during the reign of Queen Victoria, and murder was very uncommon in that time period. In London, the lights were usually very dimmed, and the city of London was extremely crowded, with practically 800 people per acre. Because of these circumstances, it was easy for a serial killer to lurk through crowds unnoticed.
